Gary Richards, Highway Foreman, Retires After 31 Years of Service

Retirement Cake

Earlier this month, the Town's employees and various Board members gathered to congratulate Gary Richards, Highway Foreman, on his retirement after 31 years of service to the Department of Public Works and the Town of Paxton.

During the celebration, Richards was credited with being a model employee with a service mindset. Richards received accolades for his positive attitude, ability to guide other employees, immense knowledge of the town, and dedication to his department and Paxton. Richards spent decades involved in every aspect of the DPW, from plowing and storms, to cemetery work, to road work and drainage projects, to assisting with water breaks and water projects, and so much more. A role model for other employees, Richards never hesitated to respond and jump into action when needed, and to listen to residents and answer their questions. The Town of Paxton was a better place with Richards at the helm as Highway Foreman, and all the Town's departments will sorely miss his absence.

A Paxton native, Richards reflected on the fact that he attended first grade in the "White Building" (now the John Bauer Senior Center) and was celebrating retirement from his career just one room over. Richards also commented that his job was made better by the fantastic cooperation of all Town departments.

The Town of Paxton extends warm wishes for a well-deserved retirement to Richards and is truly thankful for his incredible contributions to Paxton and the Department of Public Works.
